About Us 'the-optical-store.co.uk' is run and maintained by WPS Optometrists, an independently owned optical practice based in the UK. The business was originally established in the 1930's and this online arm was added in 1999 and has grown steadily since. We have an excellent reputation locally and have been winners at both the Daventry Business Awards and the national Optician Eyecare Awards. We are confident that you will be delighted by the range and quality of goods offered. In addition we believe our prices are competitive and we are completely dedicated to your total satisfaction.

We wish to point out that the inclusion of any particular product on this website does NOT mean that the manufacturer has approved or endorsed this website. We acknowledge the ownership of all trade marks.

Making A Purchase - Making a purchase could not be easier. Just browse our catalogue and click on any items that you wish to buy and put them into the shopping cart. After you have finished your selection, click on "Checkout" and you will be asked for a few details that we need to be able to satisfy the order.

We accept payment by most major credit cards and the transaction with be processed by WorldPay on our behalf. If you are shopping from outside the UK, place your order and your credit card company will convert the transaction from UK Pounds to your own currency.

Please Note - In the UK, the supply of contact lenses is governed by the rules laid down by the General Optical Council. These state that contact lenses can only be supplied to the general public by registered practitioners. We are registered with the GOC to fit and supply contact lenses and can legally supply you with contact lenses to prescription. We can only do this if we can be sure that you have had a contact lens aftercare recently.

You will need to obtain up to date details from your own Optician. In the UK it is a legal requirement that a copy of the spectacle/contact lens prescription be given to the patient when the examination/fitting has been completed or on request (if this is a duplicate for one already issued a charge can be made). This enables the public to exercise a choice in obtaining their spectacles/contact lenses from a different and possibly cheaper source while maintaining ocular health with regular eye examinations.

We can only supply contact lenses the same as the ones you are currently wearing. Your contact lens prescription (not your spectacle prescription) must have been issued by a registered optician within the last year and you must not be due for an aftercare appointment.

Shipping And Handling - The following standard postage/packaging charge is made for all orders: UK £3.50 - EU £10.00 - Rest of the world £15.00

We ship all good via Royal Mail and Parcel Force (UK) or Parcel Force (rest of the world) and they will be securely packaged to ensure all goods arrive with you safely.

Delivery Schedule - We deliver your order right away. We will normally send your order to you in 7-10 business days. You will be informed if any item is out of stock and given an approximate delivery date - but this may be subject to change as dictated by our suppliers.

International orders are generally received in less than 28 days.

Back Orders - If your item is not in stock, we will back order for you. You will always be emailed with the option to cancel your order if you would rather not wait. Backordered items are not charged until they are shipped.

Tax Charges ~ All prices quoted include appropriate UK tax. This 17.5% VAT on standard items and 7.45% on ophthalmic items (contact lenses, sports eyewear, frames etc).

Credit Card Security - We know of no documented cases of credit card fraud using our shopping system over the Internet.

When you enter the checkout phase of our site your browser will activate the "LOCK" icon, QuickSSL assures you that credit card account numbers and other confidential information cannot be viewed, intercepted or altered.

All credit card numbers are encrypted in the software when the order is placed using 128 bit encryption. They are only decrypted after they reach our computer. They are not held in clear text on any web site.
